This month's issue is dedicated (although
not 100% faithful) to the notion of Media chaos, or Chinese Whispers,
that long or short voyage that news makes from its primary source
to readers, listeners and viewers, while passing through filter
upon filter of agenda and subjectivity. Add this to the natural
selection process that leads to one story being published over another
and you are left with one giant mess of necessary awareness and
unnecessary sensationalism. In 1976 a film called "Network",
a deeply satirical portrait of the American television news media,
made an impact at the Oscars, just as actor George Clooney did this
year, who apparently has his eye on the movie for a potential remake.
Clooney has helped initiate a new wave of political cinema, and
he's proud of it too. Inspired by "Network" and less convinced
by anything else, we announce the return of the free speech demanding
humanoids, and include two new short stories, an interview with
the unflinching voice of the Parisian "La Libre Pensée",
chats with music men, photos from NYC, our reference writer Maupassant
on journalism, and more...
