Poetry

by Anna Payne

Spades

Pass me another death card
let it seduce my lungs and gently kiss my pain away,
it's hands caress my face
O ever so gently
my eyes close voluntarily
and my arms go limp,
but my lips hold tighter.

This love affair is strong.

I've walked out on you before,

I was sixteen then,
And you felt so good at 18.
Nineteen
Twenty-
twenty

But not tonight.
Tonight I stay.
So hand me another death card
Lets play spades for eternity.
